Very pleased to announce composer Eva-Maria Houben is joining us for the Wandelweiser festival in September. Ms. Houben will be in the audience, not performing.
With Eva-Maria attending, four of the nine composers contributing new works for our three-concert program will be present!

what is wandelweiser?

I am honored to announce that our Wandelweiser festival program will consist of the premiere of nine new pieces, written by nine composers integral to the Wandelweiser collective especially for our weekend. This is likely the largest such contribution to a Wandelweiser event in the U.S., and we are excited beyond measure at this privilege.

The composers contributing pieces are Antoine Beuger, Jürg Frey, Radu Malfatti, Manfred Werder, Eva-Maria Houben, Stefan Thut, Dante Boon, Johnny Chang and Michael Pisaro.

crow with no mouth is excited to present three concerts of Wandelweiser music in Minnesota.

Since its inception in 2011, cwnm has presented three concerts of Wandelweiser works; in May 2011, cwnm’s inaugural event presented percussionist Greg Stuart in the debut of Wandelweiser music in Minnesota, which was also the world premiere of the Michael Pisaro composition A Transparent Gate (with six panels); in October 2011, the trio Haptic performed the Pisaro composition Concentric Rings In Magnetic Levitation; and Michael Pisaro concluded our 2013 season with a piece for solo electric guitar.

Greg Stuart and Michael Pisaro are returning for their second respective crow concerts. They will be joined by the extraordinary composers/musicians listed below. The program will likely be one concert on the 27th, two on the 28th.

The ensemble instrumentation will look something like this:

Jürg Frey (clarinet)
Katie Porter (bass clarinet / clarinet)
Erik Carlson (violin)
Greg Stuart (portable or light percussion, gravity and friction (bowing), electronics)
Nomi Epstein (piano, inside piano, varia)
Dante Boon (piano)
Michael Pisaro (electric guitar, sine tones)

This is an event I feel supremely honored to present; for the past five years or so my listening practices, my writing for both my blog and The Wire, and the concert series I launched to present music rarely, if ever, heard in the Twin Cities, have been taken up with Wandelweiser music. To share an event with these seven artists seems both a natural development, and like a dream.
